The 33rd Ord Country Run was held on Saturday, July 7th, in conjunction with the Ord High School Alumni Reunion festivities. Cool weather greeted the participants after a week of oppressive temperatures that broke the 100 degree mark each day. There were one hundred fifty-three runners and walkers that completed three various distances, the kids’ one mile, or a three mile distance, with the heartier challengers moving up to the 10 kilometers (6.2 miles).
No individual age group records were set. The winner of the 10K race, Ricky Trevino of Bayard stated, “I thought I ran well, the records for this race for this race are unbelievable! There have been some fast times run here.” Ricky ran the fastest 10K since 2003. He is a member of “Team Nebraska”, a group of post collegiate runners that travel the country running in premier events. He was invited to Ord by fellow teammate Kaci Lickteig who won this year’s womens 10K fo the 6th time in the last 7 years. Kaci is originally from Dannebrog and is now a physical therapist in Omaha. She also ran in this years Olympic Trials Marathon.
First place in the Kid’s One mile was Colton Rowse of Ord. He covered the distance in 6:07. One of the largest family groups participating was the Ericksons. Originally from Ericson, but now coming to the Ord Race for their reunion from Columbus, Omaha, Westfield, Indiana, and Fort Wainwright, Alaska.
This years participants included a wide range of competitors from the elite to the recreational, to those just beginning an exercise program and looking for the camaraderie to push them to greater achievement.
