Alvin W. Dearmont, 88, of Lincoln, Nebraska, formerly of Burwell, Nebraska died October 31, 2012 at Bryan LGH Medical Center West in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 5, 2012 at the United Methodist Church in Burwell. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell. Pastor Dennis Davenport will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 – 7 p.m. Sunday at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell. Memorials are suggested to the Burwell Veteran’s Park.
Al was born February 19, 1924 in Rea, Missouri to Gerald and Grace (Heck) Dearmont. Al graduated from Burwell High School. After graduation he entered the United States Army. He was in northern Africa and Italy. He was honorably discharge in 1945. He then went to school at UNL studying Civil Engineering. In 1947 Al went to work for the Nebraska Department of Roads and lived in McCook. This is where he met Norma Jean Houghtelling. They were married on June 17, 1949. They moved around while in the field until 1956. He then moved to Lincoln and worked in Interstate Design with the Department of Roads until 1976. They then moved to St. Paul. Al worked for RT Paul Engineering for a while and then started Al Dearmont Engineering and Surveying. During this time he was the County Surveyor for Howard and surrounding counties. Norma died July 15, 2001. Al retired in 2006 and was remarried from 2004 through 2011 to Amelia Kizer. In 2011 Al moved to Lincoln where several of his children live who could provide assistance with his healthcare needs.
Al enjoyed horses and assisting at horse shows. While in St. Paul he was active in the Boy Scouts and helped with the model bridge contest. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Lincoln Salt Creek Ranglers and the Lincoln Frontier Scouts.
Al is survived by five children: Virgil and Jackie Dearmont of Lincoln, Nebraska, Peg and Kim Moeller of Lincoln, Nebraska, Don and Tracie Dearmont of St. Paul, Nebraska, Andy and Suzi Dearmont of Lincoln, Nebraska and Nina and Mark Homan of Gretna, Nebraska. Fourteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. One brother Charles Dearmont of Ord, Nebraska. Three sisters, Helen Fischer of Burwell, Nebraska, Ruby Percell of Lincoln, Nebraska and Ivy Everhart of Waterloo, Nebraska.
Al was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers, John, Nelson and Robert and a sister, Viletha Graham.
