Betty Lucille Black, 88



Betty Lucille Black, 88, of Burwell, Nebraska died at her home on September 10, 2012.

Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 13, 2012 at Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell. Pastor Dennis Davenport will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 – 7 p.m. at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell. Memorials are suggested to the Senior Center.

Betty was born January 26, 1924 in Burwell, Nebraska to Ray and Ethel (Lewis) Lindsey.

Betty was baptized May 31, 1936 at age twelve in the Calamus River by Rev. Wylie. She spent most of her childhood north of Nunda School on a farm where she attended grade school in Loup County. She went to high school in Burwell.

Betty married Leonard Black in Burwell on June 10, 1946.

Betty lived in Selma, California from 1956 until 1990 when she moved back to Burwell. Leonard died on May 5, 2001.

Betty enjoyed crocheting, quilting, playing cards and spending time at the senior center.

Betty is survived by four children: Carmetta and Leo Marquez of Selma, California, Maureen and Rick Stallings of Gilbert, Arizona, Van Black of Burwell, Nebraska and Lex and Sandy Black of Laton, California. Six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. A brother, Daryl and Genie Lindsey of Lincoln, Nebraska.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a sister Virginia Lindsey and a brother, Billy Lindsey.
