Emergency and Fire officials are warning people to exercise extreme caution with fireworks and all ignition sources throughout the July 4th holiday and the week. Conditions are exceptionally dry and fire-ready with predictions of continued hot and dry weather. Potential thunderstorm activity and untimely lightning could complicate an already serious scenario.
Several large and uncontrolled wildland and timberfires are burning in Nebraska and surrounding states. Tim Buskirk, Bessey District Ranger said, “It is extrememly dry and fire hazzards are high. We just ask for everyone’s help to prevent accidental fires.”
