Wednesday, March 13, 2013 was the date for the Annual Town Hall Meeting, hosted by the GLW Children’s Council. The Nebraska Adolescent Health Division of Health & Human Services, GLW Children’s Council was able to bring international speaker, Pam Stenzel, to the United Methodist Church, in Burwell, to enlighten our area youth on the benefits of Abstinence. Stenzel has spoken to over 500,000 youth this past year. She is not a quiet person and was in the faces of the youth that attended with facts and statistics, talking about pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. She gives youths the facts and then leaves the decision to them. Following the presentation and door prizes (Amy Clemets, Audie Dunbar, Evan Crawley and Emily Sheldon), Pam was able to visit with many of the youth and adults present.
GLWCC reported over 182 people in attendance from Garfield, Loup, Wheeler and Custer counties. Surveys given, following the presentation, were very positive from the parents and youth reported that they have a better understanding of the decisions they make and how those decisions will affect them for the rest of their lives, and on many levels!
Copies of Pam’s videos (“Sex Still Has a Price Tag”, “The High Cost of Love”) as well as her books, may be checked out of the GLW office by calling 346-4284
