Identity Of Man Who Drowned While Saving Child’s Life At Calamus Has Been Released



 

The identity of the man who drowned while saving an 8 year old child’s life at Calamus Reservoir on Saturday, July 14, 2012 has been released. According to Loup County Attorney Jason White, 49 year old Craig Strong of Omaha swam out to assist the child. Strong who suffered from asthma managed to get the child to safety, but by the time he was pulled from the water was in asthmatic distress. Efforts to revive Strong were unsuccessful. The accident happened about 2:30 pm near the Dry Valley fishing access area. Emergency and diver crews from Garfield and Loup counties were called to the scene. This is the second drowning incident at Calamus Reservoir in the past 3 weeks. 19 year old Richard Tucker of Columbus NE drowned near Homestead Knolls on Thursday, June 28.
