Nebraska Speaker of the Legislature, Mike Flood was in Ord on Thursday, July 12, 2012. Flood met with business leaders during a forum this at the Ord Area Chamber of Commerce office. Later that afternoon he spoke with the Ord Rotary Club and visited several area businesses.
In his remarks, Flood covered what had happened in the legislature. Mike said he was proud that the legislature had avoided any tax increases in the downturn of the economy beginning in 2009. He said that the state had already built back some of the reserve funds that were used during the tight economic times.
Flood covered issues such as Child Welfare, Natural Gas Supplies, Tax restructuring, water issues, rural economic development, state tourism. He also discussed the state’s school funding formula and its impact on rural school systems.
Flood used the occasion to announce that he is exploring the possibility of running for governor. Flood said he will be touring the state over the next few months before deciding if he would choose to decide if he decides to toss his hat into the ring for Nebraska’s top government position.
