Shirley Jean Schimmer, 84, of Burwell, Nebraska died May 14, 2010 at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell, Nebraska.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell, Nebraska. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell. Rev. Matthew Berndt will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 – 7 p.m. Monday at Hitchcock Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the family.
Shirley was born November 20, 1925 in Hastings, Nebraska to Louis and Rheva (Warren) Evans. She grew up in Hastings and Red Cloud and graduated from Hastings High School.
After graduation she worked at a bank and a telephone company. Shirley married Roderick Martin Schimmer in 1949. Six children were born to this union. They ranched northwest of Ericson, Nebraska on the Cedar River and then they moved and bought a ranch in North Platte, Nebraska. Shirley and Rod were later divorced.
Shirley was a good mother, a ranch wife, and a good cook. She enjoyed playing bingo, making Barbie clothes and clothes for her family.
Shirley is survived by four children; Rod and his wife Teresa Schimmer of North Platte, Nebraska, Julie and her husband Rocky Stethem of Burwell, Nebraska, Marty and her husband Terry Rowse of Burwell, Nebraska and Peg and her husband Bill Schmitz of North Platte, Nebraska. Twelve grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren. A brother Jack and his wife Shirley Evans of Grand Island, Nebraska. Two sisters, Mary and her husband Tom Barber and Peggy and her husband Vern Frederickson all of Sacramento, California.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Jerry and two sons, Gary and John, as an infant.
