Shirley O. Bonsall, 84, of Scotia passed away Thursday, March 28, 2013, at the Lakeview Golden Living Center in Grand Island.Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at the Ord Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jeremiah Knoop officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery at Scotia. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Ord Memorial Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Family. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Shirley was born February 5, 1929, on the family farm at Canada Hill near Farwell, Nebraska to Joseph and Augusta (Ingerle) Spilinek. She attended rural country school and graduated from Ord High School in 1947.
On March 18, 1948, Shirley was united in marriage to Jesse Dean Bonsall at North Loup, Nebraska. The couple farmed north of Ord and later south of Scotia. They moved to Papillion where they resided until 1966, when they returned to Scotia. Shirley was a cook at the North Loup Scotia High School and also babysat.
Mr. Bonsall passed away November 11, 1999. Shirley continued to make her home in Scotia until her passing.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and attended the Chalk Hills Community Church. She enjoyed helping with Cub Scouts, watching birds, working in her flower gardens and growing sunflowers.
Survivors include three sons and a daughter-in-law, Jim of Alliance, Russ and Deb of Grand Island and Terry of Scotia; two grandsons; one great-grandson; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Jim Spilinek and Dan and Luella Spilinek all of Ord; six sisters and two brothers-in-law, Francis and Roy Mares of Burwell, Alice Cunningham of Weeping Water, Betty Johnson, Patty and Robert Davis and Peggy Mohr all of Lincoln; and Laura Knight of Pahrump, Nevada.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jesse Dean; and a brother, Franklin Spilinek.
