Special elections took place yesterday, Tuesday, August 14, 2012 in Ord and Arcadia for Levies concerning the Ord Township Library and Arcadia’s school. The Levy for the Arcadia school passed with 86 votes for and 16 against. The override concerning the Ord Township Library passed with 285 votes for and 63 against . With the passing of the new levy an 8.9 cent levy will keep the library operating for the next five years.
Kristi Hagstrom, Director of the Library stated, “On behalf of the Ord Township Library, I would like to thank the community for supporting this levy override. These funds will be used carefully to assure the Library continues to serve the public at the exceptional level the Ord community has come to expect.”
The current operating budget of the Ord Township Library has remained at $99,000 for the past five years. If the levy had not passed cuts to staff, programming and purchasing of books would have suffered.
