Valley County K-9 Sniff’s Out Narcotic’s During Traffic Stop Of Burwell Man’s Vehicle



Valley County Sheriff Casey Hurlburt reports ,On September 29th, Valley County Deputy Struble conducted a traffic stop on Highway 11 ouside of Ord for two separate driving on the shoulder violations. The driver of the vehicle was Douglas Mercer of Burwell. After issuing Mercer a written warning for the violations, a trained and certified drug detection dog was walked around the exterior of the vehicle. The Valley County K9 indicated the presence of the odor of narcotics and a probable cause search uncovered 1 1/4 pounds of Marijuana as well as 2 grams of Methamphetamine. Mercer was transported to the Valley County Jai, read his Miranda rights and booked in with charges of possession of Marijuana more than a pound, possession of Marijuana with the intent to deliver, and possession of Methamphetamine. Mercer posted a $7500.00 bond October 2 and was released. His next court date will be November 5th. Sheriff Hurlburt states that Deputy Struble and his K-9 Aaron are good addition to the Valley County Sheriff’s Office and another tool to fight the war on drugs.
