He received his early education in Ogallala and graduated from Genoa High School in 2001.

In his early adulthood, Beau demonstrated remarkable versatility and skills across various roles. His interests and talents centered on agriculture, where he applied his knowledge as a welder in the manufacturing industry, truck driver, mechanic, and as a dedicated worker in feedlots and hayfields. His true passion lay in ranching, caring for livestock and LOVE of horses.

Despite this setback, Beau’s connection to rodeo continued; he remained actively involved by working the stripping chutes and supporting Rodeo Bible Camps. He played an instrumental role in his son Kolten’s Rodeo journey, imparting invaluable skills and knowledge of bull riding. Watching and guiding Kolten in the arena was a source of joy for him.

Beau was also a devoted member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ and belonged to the American Quarter Horse Association. Outside of the rodeo world, he enjoyed playing pool and cards, was an avid gun collector, enjoyed woodworking, and treasured socializing with friends. Among these friendships, his bond with Jim Jezbeara was particularly close, marked by profound loss as Jim passed away just hours prior to Beau. His most recent employment was for Jim and Jimmy Jezbera which was a great joy for him. He thought of them as family and always felt at home with them.

James J. “Jim” Jezbera, Sr. of Burwell, Nebraska, a man of many talents and skills passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at CHI Bergan Mercy Health Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 81.

Born on August 29, 1944, at Broken Bow, Nebraska the son of Willy and Katherine (Tobey) Jezbera. Jim grew up in Sargent and received his education in Custer County. At the age of 16 he moved to Taylor and lived with Jack Harris.

On June 3, 1967, in Burwell, Nebraska, Jim united in marriage with Velva Fischer, embarking on a partnership that would endure 55 years. In 1973, they settled north of Burwell on the Jezbera homeplace, where they built a life together and raised their three children, James, Jr., Jodi, and Joan.

Jim spent some years working in construction and as a truck driver. He took pride in the ownership and operation of “JJ Repair,” his mechanic shop initially located on the family homeplace before moving into Burwell in 1988. Yet, it was ranching on the homeplace that truly captured Jim’s passion, which he pursued with love and dedication right up until his passing.

Jim traveled many miles in his truck and on his motorcycle. He spent his days in the hay fields and tending to the cattle alongside his dogs, Blue and Patches. As a skilled mechanic, Jim enjoyed tinkering on tractors and vehicles; there wasn’t a task Jim didn’t conquer. Occasionally he found time to fish, hunt, play pool and collect guns.

He cared deeply for those around him, especially his grandchildren, holding a special place in his heart for family. Though his departure came too soon, Jim’s legacy of love, loyalty, and hard work remains an indelible part of all who knew him.

He is now peacefully resting in the arms of the Good Lord and reunited with his cherished wife, Vel.

Survivors include his three children; James J. Jezbera, Jr. of Burwell; Jodi Jezbera of Ord and Joan and Leroy Leth of Scotia; grandchildren, Abbie Clark, Dodge (Journi) Daniels, Demi Daniels, Troy Reynolds and Emalee Leth; great-grandchild, Dane Denim Daniels; a brother, Gary (Charlene) Jezbera; a sister, Agnes Beethe; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Vel; and two brothers, Jerry and Chuck.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at the Calamus Trinity Methodist Church in Burwell, Nebraska. Pastor Stephen Williams will officiate. Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Still Waters Funeral Parlor.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Linda Susan (Konkoleski) Osborn, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away unexpectedly on May 22, 2026, at the Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney.

Linda was born on April 25, 1954, to Floyd and Matilda Konkoleski in Ord, Nebraska. Linda enjoyed farm life as a child, caring for the baby animals and learning to drive the tractors. She attended country school until 8th grade and continued her education at Ord High School.

On November 28, 1970, Linda married her high school sweetheart, Tom Osborn. Together they moved to Hastings where they lived until 1975. During that time, Linda and Tom worked in grocery stores in and around Hastings. It was there that Linda and Tom welcomed their first children, Mike and Micky. In 1975, the family moved back to Ord where they welcomed their next two children, Mandy and Marcy. In 1980, Linda and Tom had the opportunity to purchase the packing plant in Sargent. Living in Sargent, they welcomed their youngest daughter, Melissa. Together with their family, they built Sargent Packing into a business that became their life’s work.

Linda, in her generosity and selflessness, was part of numerous Sargent groups over the years and always enjoyed serving others. Her faith was an important part of her life which included her membership at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church of Sargent.

Linda was passionately connected to her huge family and peaceful hobbies. Forever busy, she mastered baking, cooking, gardening, and reading. Her greatest moments, however, came in the kitchen and dining room of her home. She was the most remarkable hostess; juggling an ever-growing crowd and ensuring food never ran out. Although she was rarely found taking a moment to relax, she found her peace partaking in the storytelling and laughter that filled the room.

Linda loved her grandchildren fiercely, and always prioritized spending time with them. She was always loading Tom up in the car to spend their hours at wrestling meets, volleyball tournaments, football games, cross country meets, concerts, plays, graduations, and every other moment in between. She would respond to every call or text, giving advice, sharing a recipe, or even just checking in. Her laughter and smile enabled her entire family to never be bashful, and to just dig in. Linda and Tom have been amazing role models for their children, demonstrating the importance of family. They have created a lasting legacy. Spending 55 years together, and working together for numerous years at the plant, showed the resilience needed to build a lasting marriage. Linda was kind, patient, which you have to be with a family of that size and loving to all. Linda was very private, preferring to be out of the spotlight, but she was the highlight of her family’s lives. She made the world better for everyone who knew her. She didn’t meet the standard; she set the standard.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Tom of Sargent; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Jan of Sargent; four daughters and sons-in-law, Micky and Joe Schneider of Sargent, Mandy and Dale Davis of Bassett, Marcy and David Shafer of Ord and Melissa and Nick Kelley of Hastings; twenty-three grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one expectant great grandchild; a sister and brother-in-law, Diane and John Belschner of Lincoln; in-laws, Larry Masin, Gloria Wabs, Julie and Duane Sich, Susan and Scott Runck and Georgia and Mark Percival; and many loving extend family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Gary Konkoleski; parents-in-law, Wilbur and Lois Osborn; in-laws, Bonita and Frank Piskorski, Marie and Del Bartling, Mary Masin and Rudy Wabs; and nephews, Brad Masin, Jamie Piskorski and Scott Wabs.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 29, 2026, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. Father Paul Colling will be the Mass Celebrant. Private Inurnment will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the church. The Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Bulldog Foundation. Ord Memorial Chapel is assisting with the arrangements. Online condolences may be left at www.ordmemorialchapel.com

A Grand Island man is facing federal charges following an investigation into a burglary at a United States Post Office earlier this year.

A federal grand jury has indicted 40-year-old Tristan Bush on charges of burglary and possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of actual methamphetamine.

Authorities say the case stems from an incident on January 8th, when Bush allegedly forced open an oversized package locker at the post office and removed mail from multiple postal boxes.

Investigators later executed a search warrant at Bush’s residence, where they reportedly discovered a large gray U.S. mail bag containing hundreds of pieces of mail addressed to Grand Island post office box holders, including mail connected to a victim identified in court documents.

Law enforcement officials also say Bush was found in possession of suspected methamphetamine and marijuana at the time of his arrest.

If convicted, Bush could face up to five years in federal prison on the burglary charge. The methamphetamine distribution charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison, with a maximum possible penalty of life imprisonment.

Nebraska Men’s Basketball Coach Fred Hoiberg added size and frontcourt shooting to the Husker roster with the addition of Belmont transfer Sam Orme (pronounced ORM) on Thursday. A 6-foot-9, 220-pound forward from Carmel, Ind., Orme comes to Nebraska after earning All-Missouri Valley Conference honors last season.

“Sam is a player we targeted early in the process because he has a skillset that can flourish in our system,” Nebraska Coach Fred Hoiberg said. “At 6-foot-9, he has the size to score inside and can stretch the floor as he shot nearly 40 percent from 3-point range last year at a high volume. Defensively, he has the length to guard multiple positions and is active in getting his hands in passing lanes. He comes from a winning program, has a high basketball IQ and gives us a player we can build around over the next two seasons.”

Last season, Orme played in 29 games, including 28 starts, in helping Belmont to a 26-6 record and a Missouri Valley Conference regular-season title. He earned second-team All-MVC honors, averaging 12.7 points per game on 56 percent shooting along with 5.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. Orme shot 40 percent from 3-point range and averaged 1.6 3-pointers per game. The versatile forward ranked fifth in the MVC in both field goal percentage (.559) and 3-point percentage (.397) while also finishing among the MVC leaders in scoring (15th), rebounding (16th) and 3-pointers per game (11th). On the year, Orme tallied 21 double-figure games, including a pair of 20-point performances, and a pair of double-doubles.

Sterling Emmett Hughes, a distinguished artist, dedicated rancher, and devoted family man, of rural Cotesfield, Nebraska passed away on Monday, May 18, 2026, at the Country House Residence in Grand Island, Nebraska, at the age of 87.

Born on April 14, 1939, on the family ranch north of Burwell, Nebraska, Sterling was the son of Walter and Ruth (Hamilton) Hughes. His early years were spent between Nebraska and Wyoming before the family established their home on a ranch northwest of Greeley, Nebraska.

Sterling received his education at Greeley Public School and graduated from Greeley High School in 1958. He furthered his passion for the arts by attending art school in Omaha.

On July 8, 1961, Sterling married Patricia “Pat” Gray at Boys Town in Omaha, Nebraska. Their union spanned nearly five decades, during which they built their life first in the Omaha and Elkhorn areas and later settled on a farm southeast of Scotia in 1969. There, Sterling cultivated a rich life grounded in farming, ranching, sheep shearing, and construction work. His deep affection for cattle, particularly dairy cows, remained a lifelong passion.

An acclaimed wood sculptor, Sterling, showcased his artwork at venues such as the Stuhr Museum in Grand Island and various regional exhibitions. His artistic achievements earned him numerous honors, and his wood pieces found homes across the United States, Canada, and South America. Sterling was an avid reader with a vast personal library. He enjoyed gardening, visiting with others, and watching western films.

He was a member of the Artissimos Art Club and past member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church of Scotia.
Survivors include his children, son, Kevin Hughes of Greeley; three daughters, Kim Mackey of David City (Rich Mackey of Kuwait), Leah and Wayne Crome of Greeley and Alisha Hughes of Cotesfield; thirteen grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and two sisters, Jean Zauha of Papillion and Mary Gail Lopez of Madison.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 49 years, Pat; two sons, Keith and Brendan Hughes; daughter-in-law, Jean (Mrs. Kevin) Hughes; two brothers, Frank and Ora Hughes and two sisters, Patricia Buckner and Merna Bisgaard.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greeley, Nebraska. Father Lawrence Vadakkan will officiate. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday at the church from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Family’s Choice. T.J. Finn and Sons Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements. Online condolences may be left at www.ordmemorialchapel.com
