ORD, Neb. - An absconded sex offender from Texas was arrested in Ord on Saturday, August 29th.
According to Valley County Sheriff Casey Hurlburt, 29 year-old William Sharp was
arrested on a felony warrant from Ochiltree County Texas.
Sharp absconded on August 5, 2009 when he failed to register his whereabouts with the Texas Department of Public Safety.
According to the TDPS public sex offender registry, Sharp was convicted of Indecency with Child Sexual Contact in 1997. The conviction stems from an incident involving a 14 year old girl when Sharp was 17. Sharp was given 1 year of juvenile probation.
In 2004 Sharp was convicted of failing to register as a sex offender and was sentenced to 5 years in prison. He was released on July 23, 2009 to Ochiltree county, Texas were he again failed to register, prompting the issuance of the current warning.
According to Ochiltree County Sheriff Terry Bouchart, Sharp's initial conviction stemmed from an incident where the victim was fondled. Sheriff Bouchart also cited overcrowded prisons in Texas as the main contributing factor for Sharp's parole.
Sharp, also known as William Anthony Sharp, William A. Sharp, Bill Sharp, Billy Sharp and Kidd Sharp was living at 916 M Street in Ord at the time of his arrest.
According to Valley County Sheriff Casey Hurlburt, Sharp is fighting extradition back to Texas. Sharp is currently being held in the Valley County Jail awaiting a September 21st court date.
