Ord Names Interim Police Chief

ORD, Neb. - Former Valley County Sheriff, Larry Ronzzo was named interim Police Chief for the city of Ord at a special meeting of the Ord City Council on Friday afternoon.

Ronzzo takes the place of Brian Kirby whose resignation became effective on Friday, March 6th.

Ord Mayor, Randy O'Brien also said the city has advertised for a new permanent police chief and will take applications through March 20, 2009.

The city also voted to get out of a contract with the county for emergency communications. The city had been paying the county $ 7,500. per year to the county to handle calls for the Ord Police. The city already has a contract with Region 26 for which it pays $2,400 and now plans to have Region 26 handle emergency communications. In making the recommendation, Councilman, Dan Petska told the city council, "It sounds like Valley County will turn over their communications to Region 26 in the future."

The city also voted to hire all 9 applicants for positions to staff the swimming pool for the summer.
