IZIE’S STORY as told by her mother Bobbie Hill
“Izabella started having stomach aches and nausea about the middle of March. At first we thought it was the flu and it passed. Then a few days went by and it happened again. As the weeks passed it became a morning ritual and spilled over into noon time. The Dr said it was acid reflex disease and gave her medication but she couldn’t keep it down. Easter came and while traveling to Kansas to see grandpa, Izabella told mom she swallowed a penny. Mom told Dad and he said Izabella had told him the same thing. They had an X ray taken in Broken Bow and they didn’t see anything. Izabella started to be really wobbly when she walked and couldn’t balance. A few days later she threw up at daycare around noon. Her Dr was called and she said it was time for Izabella to see a pediatric specialist. Izabella had an appointment set for April 28th at 1:30 P.M. Moms plan was to work until 11:30 A.M. then pick Izabella up from daycare and drive to Kearney. As mom was getting ready for work that morning, Izabella felt sick in her tummy and had such a bad headache she was rolling around on the floor, holding her head and crying. Mom called Kearney and said they were coming early or going right to the ER. They told mom to bring her down. The pediatric specialist ordered a CAT scan to be done and blood work. After the tests were run they were to report back to her office. At her office she informed us Izabella had a tumor in the back of her head. She advised us to go right to Omaha to see Dr Puccioni. We drove straight to Omaha on Wednesday April 28th. After check in, we were scheduled for an MRI and CAT scan to be done Thursday morning, April 29th. Izabella was medicated and the tests were run. Dr Puccioni went over the scans and informed us Izabella had brain cancer. He said she couldn’t live with the tumor, It had to be removed. She was scheduled for surgery on Friday morning, April 30th at 7 A.M. Dr Puccioni removed the tumor and she was out of surgery by 3:30 P.M.
Izabella’s tumor is cancer ,medulloblastoma ,and she will be getting chemotherapy and possibly radiation to her spine. She is very strong and has pulled through the surgery as well as she can.
Izie loves to sing and dance. She has always enjoyed babies and loves to bounce them or she calls it “boinging” Her favorite songs are Toes in the water, and Shoo Fly Don’t Bother Me.”
