(Lincoln, NE)- Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol issued 141 citations and warnings for Seat Belt violations and 40 Child Restraint citations and warnings during the nationwide “Click It or Ticket” campaign. The special enforcement designed to enforce the message “seat belts, save lives” encompassed the heavily traveled Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
Troopers and dispatchers worked overtime hours during the “Click It or Ticket” special enforcement thanks in part to a nearly $30,000 grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety.
The following statistics reflect statewide activity by the Nebraska State Patrol during the “Click It or Ticket” enforcement (Nov. 22-28, 2010):

Nebraska’s Seat Belt Law is a secondary law. Drivers can be cited for this violation only if stopped for a separate violation. Violating Nebraska’s Seat Belt law carries a $25.00 fine, for each offense.
