Comstock is Back!

Posted by Johnnie James On May - 21 - 2010

Comstock's windmills and old stage on the historic Dempster grounds has become dilapidated since the original music festivals ended. This year's concerts will be held on the original site with plans to build a brand new facility on the other side of the road for next year. Photo courtesy of Andrew Mihm.

Comstock or Bust will be the name of a festival and a corresponding website comstockorbust.com for a three day event August 20-22 of 2010. The festival will be held on the original site of the well known festivals. Bill Kann of Lafayette, TN, the sole owner of Up the Creek Inc. has agreed to lease properties and equipment from Jim Trotter of Arcadia, NE. Jim had purchased the land for the sole purpose of keeping things together so someone could step up and keep the entertainment venue that meant so much to the economy of central Nebraska.

Bill Kann first came to know of Comstock in June of 2004 when he drove the bus that brought Chris LeDoux to Comstock. Bill said “Chris loved Comstock, the fact that everyone was treated the same, no VIP seats, the rodeo, the windmills, and the wide open area. Bill stated on KNLV Friday morning when he announced the return of the festival, that ” I loved comstock too, I’ve been a lot of places the last 40 years in the entertainment industry and there is no place like Comestock.” As sole owner of Up the Creek Inc. Bill brings many years of experence and connections.

Bert Padell of New York, will handle all accounting and entertainment legalities. Bert’s claim to fame is that he was one of the originators of Woodstock. Bert says, “from what I have seen and heard I am 100% behind Bill’s venture in Comstock.”

The first Comstock or Bust will feature country national and regional acts and related events. Extreme Bull Riding has verbally committed to come to the event. More information and updates will forthcoming on comstockorbust.com and on knlvradio.com.
