On July 21st the Valley County Sheriff’s office received a call from Trooper Dave Scheideler who was in pursuit of a speeding vehicle west bound on Highway 70 towards Arcadia and was refusing to pull over. Deputy Randy faaborg and Sheriff Casey Hurlburt set up a two vehicle road block on the east edge of Arcadia. As the vehicle approached the road block at a dangerous speed Sheriff Hurlburt drew his weapon and ordered the vehicle to stop. The vehicle swerved towards him and drove through the road block striking his left shoulder. The vehicle drove into the ditch and proceeded west bound on Hwy 70 at a high rate of speed in excess of 100 miles per hour. The suspect continued to drive into oncoming traffic finally losing control going into the ditch. The suspect continued trying to escape the ditch ignoring officer’s commands and at one point almost hitting one of the deputies, and forcing the officers to disable the vehicle by shooting out the tires and engine. Deputy Faaborg shattered the vehicle’s windshield after the suspect continued to try to escape. The suspect was subdued and transported to the hospital for examination and blood draw. With only minor bruising the suspects blood alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit. The defendant has six prior DWI’s and is currently on probation out of Dawson county for DWI and also had an interlock machine in his vehicle after having a suspended license for two years.
