Posted by Johnnie James On November - 11 - 2011

Morningside will get a chance to add the Great Plains Athletic Conference postseason tournament title to the regular season title it won.

The Mustangs advanced to the championship match with a 25-15, 25-21, 25-23 sweep over fourth-seeded Northwestern in the semifinals Thursday night at Rosen Verdoorn Sports Center.

Morningside (25-6) will face second-seeded Doane (29-5) in the 7:30 p.m. final on Saturday night at Allee Gym. The winner receives an automatic berth into the NAIA National Championships, where the final 12 teams after opening-round matches will make their way to the Tyson Evens Center Nov. 29 through Dec. 3.

Senior Riley Callan had 12 kills to lead a balanced Morningside offense that had 43 kills and only 18 errors for a .212 hitting percentage in the match.

Kellie Peterson and Des Erickson are members of the Doane team.
