Ord Alumni Principal Dave Van Nordheim received that special “Bucket List” opportunity thanks to one compassionate employee and former student, Carolyn Lukesh to return to Ord High School to tour and relish the achievements and accomplishments that have been made.
Carolyn made a call to Superintendent Jason Alexander to arrange a tour of the facility and with the assistance of VCHS driver, Frank Smedra and Activity Aide, Bebe Dahlsten, they were able to bring Dave to the school for a morning of reminiscing with old friends while taking in the new renovations and improvements. Dave was able to tour his old classroom and visit with faculty.
Dave began his career at Ord teaching in 1958 Biology and General Sciences. He recalls, “I remember just the light bulbs hanging for the lighting before the fluorescent lights were put in and how classes were averaging around 100 students and there were about 30 students in a classroom-a lot of baby boomers.” He went on to recall many of the students he had taught going on to be very successful and some were teachers and Dr.’s and one being Dr. Cronk, a specialty clinic General Surgeon at VCHS.
While he was at the school he coached FB and track starting with the Jr. High athletics. His greatest thrill was when Bob Pierce won state.
