The Nebraska Department of roads held an Information open house Tuesday, August 31st regarding the resurfacing and reconstruction of Nebraska Highway 11 between North Loup and Ord at Legends Grub and Sports Pub in North Loup.
KNLV spoke with Lou Lenzen, Assistant Roadway Design Engineer. Lenzen stated about 50 plus members of the community showed up to listen to the proposed project and how it would affect the communities as a whole.
Display signs and videos were used to describe the widening of the road and resurfacing project. The Mira Creek bridge is going to be longer and wider, according to Lenzen, and that project should start in 2012. The highway project will start after the bridge is built. Shoulders will also be widened. The highway project is expected to begin in the summer of 2013.
Lenzen also explained that they will maintain traffic on the entire road. The cost for the proposed project is estimated at just over $7 million. He stated due to inflation that it is anticipated the cost will be higher when the project begins in 2012 with the building of the Mira Creek bridge.
