LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) – Trent Mastny rushes 26 times for 181 yards
and two touchdowns and passes for another score, leading top-ranked
Howells to a 46-7 victory over No. 3 Sargent in the Class D2
championship game.
With its victory Monday, Howells (13-0) won its ninth state
title in football since 2000. The only years it didn’t win it all
were 2006 and 2007.
The Bobcats scored touchdowns on their first six possessions to
lead 46-0.
Mastny threw a 6-yard pass to Tyler Brester to open the scoring.
Mastny ran for touchdowns of 1 and 5 yards for a 22-0 lead.
Cory Brester had TD runs of 1 and 6 yards for the Bobcats.
Tyke Kozeal ran 13 times for 81 yards and scored Sargent’s only
touchdown, from 3 yards, in the fourth quarter.
Howells amassed 354 yards against the Bulldogs (12-1), who were
state runners-up for the third time since 2000.
