An Ord man died Tuesday morning as a result of injuries he received when he came into contact
with a live electrical wire at the Loup Valley Alfalfa plant in Burwell. The victim, Dean “Vegas”
Lodewyck of Ord, was transported to Valley County Hospital by a Burwell Emergency Medical
Services ambulance, where he was pronounced dead after resuscitation efforts failed.
Witnesses reported that Mr. Lodewyck, an employee of Rick’s Electric, Inc. of Ord, was
troubleshooting a suspected “short” or faulty circuit when he came into contact with a live
electrical wire. Rescue efforts by workers at the scene were unsuccessful.

A local man was reportedly electrocuted in Burwell Tuesday morning, August 31st. The accident reportedly happened at the former Loup Valley Alfalfa Plant. According to Alma Beland with Region 26 a 911 call came in at 10:25 am with a report of a man unconcious at the plant located on Highway 11 South of Burwell. The man was reportedly taken to Valley County Health System where he was pronounced dead. A call was placed to the Garfield County Attorney’s office who said they were not releasing information at this time. We will update this story as more information becomes available.
