Very heavy rains of three to over four inches overnight have closed several area roads and washed out several bridges. The highway 183 bridge north of Taylor has been washed out and will not be reopen for some time. The Loup County highway department is advising folks not to drive in Loup County. Damage assement is currently ongoing. Mail delivery will only be on the Highway west of Taylor. Several roads in Wheeler County have also been closed by the Wheeler County roads department and travel is not recommended. Roads in Valley County have also been closed because of the heavy rainfall of the past few days. Mira Creek had overflowed this morning on the Pizza Hut Road. KNLV also had reports that Haskell Creek Road and the East River Road were closed. The bridge on Fort Avenue was washed out and the road is closed. Valley County officials were also monitoring the bridge at Anderson Island. Garfield County roads director Gary Kinney advises that several roads are also closed in Garfield County and travel is not recommeded.
Gov. Dave Heineman has declared a state of
emergency in the wake of severe weather that’s pounded Nebraska for
days.
The declaration will allow state and local governments to
request federal aid for repairs.
Heineman’s office says Nebraska has been hit with strong
thunderstorms, high winds, tornadoes, flooding, rain and hail since
June 1. The Nebraska Emergency Management Agency is assessing storm
damage.
Friday morning storms, ripped away a shed and moving another building at least three feet off its
foundation northeast of O’Neill. Six miles east of Atkinson, a
pickup was severely damaged and trees were down.

The National weather service has post a Flood Watch for tonight through Sunday morning as more heavy rain is expected tonight and possibly tomorrow and tomorrow night.
