The Ord FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America) Chapter has once again actively sponsored an event to benefit our local community. At their last meeting, they used the FCCLA Planning Process to come up with a project for the local group to participate in. Members brainstormed for a variety of possible projects. Then they narrowed their concerns by discussing and voting for what they thought was most worthwhile. Members decided that they really wanted to pursue a project that would help our local community. The decision was to have a “penny war” at the high school with all proceeds going toward Make Christmas Happen. The chapter provided one jar for each class plus one for the staff. Anyone could put pennies in their own jar. When they put in any coins or bills other than pennies in other jars, that group gets that same amount subtracted from their pennies. The total amount raised was $556.23. The main battles were between the Staff, the Eighth grade and the Sophomores. The Staff won the Penney war with $105.73 in pennies and $62.95 in coins or bills for a positive count of 4,278. The Sophomores were second with $34.44 in pennies and $35.10 in coins or bills for a negative count of 66. The Eighth grade raised $68.83 in pennies, but had $147.95 in coins or bills for a negative count of 7,912.
The FCCLA chapter will provide a pizza party for the Staff. The committee working on this event was headed up by Ashley Bruha and Vanessa Gallegos.
