A pre-trial hearing was held today, Tuesday, November 6th, 2012 at the Valley County Courthouse in the case against John Oldson for the murder of Cathy Beard in 1989. A new pre-trial hearing has been set for Wednesday, November 14th in Howard County Court in St. Paul NE. Oldson’s attorney James Mowbray objected to the State’s new witness list which included 40 new witnesses. Because of the number of new witnesses Mowbray said they needed more time to prepare for the jury trial which has been set for November 26th, 2012. Judge Karen Noaks overruled Mowbray’s attempt to have a bond set for Oldson. Currently Oldson is being held at the Valley County jail without bond.
