The Sandhills Dodgers baseball team split a pair of games this past weekend with the Hastings Vaqueros.
In game 1, the Dodgers were lead at the plate by Lance Steele. Steele hit a grand slam home run in the 5th inning to put the Dodgers in the lead, but the game would end on a sour note for the Dodgers as they couldn’t hold their two run lead going into the bottom of the seventh. The Vaqueros were able to score three runs to get the win 7-6. Matt Stachura took the loss on the mound for the Dodgers.
In game 2, the Dodger’s took the early lead, posting runs in both the first and second innings. The Vaqueros were held hitless by pitcher Todd Stachura until the 5th inning when they managed a single hit. Helping his cause, Todd Stachura hit a two-run home run in the 7th inning, taking the score to 4-0 in favor of the Dodgers. Derek Leth kept up his hot hitting, going 2-4 in game two.
The Dodgers are trying to schedule make up games with the Kearney Kernels and the Cairo Camels. The next scheduled game for the Dodgers will be on July 18th at Ord in a round robin with the Cairo Camels and the Ord Cubs. The games will be broadcast on V103.9 FM and www.knlvradio.com.
