Sargent, Neb. – Recent flood waters have overloaded Sargent’s sewers and residents are being asked to help lighten the load.
The City of Sargent is asking residents who are pumping water out of their basements to please pump into the streets. Residents are also being asked to restrict their water and sewer usage.
Though the City’s sewage system is being stressed by all of the recent flooding the City is assuring residents that their drinking water remains safe.
The Middle Loup Public Power and Irrigation District’s dam at Sargent has also sustained damage but is limping along despite having one side completely destroyed by the flooding. According to District General Manager Al Schmidt the district has also experienced canal damage caused by the river leaving it’s banks. Though there is “no major damage,” says Schmidt.
The Middle Loup River Public Power and Irrigation District anticipates a meeting in the near future, though one has not been scheduled yet.
The Middle Loup River, near Loup City, was full Monday morning as it worked to carry flood water from the area. The Middle Loup starts in western Nebraska and flows through several communities impacted by the weekend’s heavy rains including Sargent, Comstock, Arcadia, Loup City and Rockville before joining the South Loup east of Boelus, Nebraska.
