IZIE’S STORY
Izabella started having stomach aches and nausia about the middle of March. At first we thought it was the flu and it passed. Then a few days went by and it happened again. As the weeks passed it became a morning ritual and spilled over into noon time. The Dr said it was acid reflex disease and gave her medication but she couldn’t keep it down. Easter came and while traveling to Kansas to see grandpa, Izabella told mom she swallowed a penny. Mom told Dad and he said Izabella had told him the same thing. They had an X ray taken in Broken Bow and they didn’t see anything. Izabella started to be really wobbly when she walked and couldn’t balance. A few days later she threw up at daycare around noon. Her Dr was called and she said it was time for Izabella to see a pediatric specialist. Izabella had an appointment set for April 28th at 1:30 P.M. Moms plan was to work until 11:30 A.M. then pick Izabella up from daycare and drive to Kearney. As mom was getting ready for work that morning, Izabella felt sick in her tummy and had such a bad headache
she was rolling around on the floor, holding her head and crying. Mom called Kearney and said they were coming early or going right to the ER. They told mom to bring her down. The pediatric specialist ordered a CAT scan to be done and blood work. After the tests were run they were to report back to her office. At her office she informed us Izabella had a tumor in the back of her head. She advised us to go right to Omaha to see Dr Puccioni. We drove straight to Omaha on Wednesday April 28th. After check in, we were scheduled for an MRI and CAT scan to be done Thursday morning, April 29th. Izabella was medicated and the tests were run. Dr Puccioni went over the scans and informed us Izabella had brain cancer. He said she couldn’t live with the tumor, It had to be removed. She was scheduled for surgery on Friday morning, April 30th at 7 A.M. Dr Puccioni removed the tumor and she was out of surgery by 3:30 P.M.
Izabella is in ICU trying to wake up. Each person does this at their own rate and she is still working on it as of May 4th 2010.
Izabella’s tumor is cancer ,medulloblastoma ,and she will be getting chemotherapy and possibly radiation to her spine. She is very strong and has pulled through the surgery as well as she can.
Thanks to everyone who has prayed, donated money, helped in their own way, and just showed Izie they care about her. We will keep updating as we know more!

We are also battling a medulloblastoma with our 9 month old granddaughter, Sophia. Dr. Puccioni also did her surgery on March 26. Right now Sophia is in treatment at St. Jude in Memphis. But she may be able to come back to Omaha for her second round of treatment. Our prayers are with you as you “travel this road” too.
Why did you decide to go to St. Jude? Thank you for responding to Izie’s story. Please keep communicating with me.
Bobbie
Sophia saw Dr. Abromowitch in Omaha and was planning to start chemo there at Childrens. But then her parents got a call from Dr. Abromowitch that St. Jude wanted her to come there. So that changed everything and they’re still there in Memphis, but are hoping to come to Omaha for the next round of chemo, which is supposed to start May 21. They have a CaringBridge page you can read what’s happened so far:

When we worked concession stands last year, we felt blessed if Izie would come up to the counter. She would always put smiles on our faces. Izie and her family have been in our thoughts and prayers since we heard about Izie’s struggle and they will remain there!
I just found out about Izie. My prayers are with you.
You may not remember us, but we remember you, and we want you to know our prayers are with you. We know the emotional pain cancer brings to a family as our granddaughter has suffered the consequences of childhood cancer. Please consider a Care Page so we can keep our prayers updated and send you our support. You’re not alone.
We are praying for all of you! Can’t wait to see Izie’s smiling face back at daycare! She is such a joy
