LINCOLN—Attorney General Jon Bruning announced Friday that former Ravenna police officer Larry Williams, 54, was sentenced to 6 to 12 years in prison each for 5 counts of first degree sexual assault to be served consecutively for a total of 30 to 60 years. He was also sentenced to
5 years of Intensive Supervised Probation for one count of Sexual Assault of a Child to be served upon his release. In addition, Williams must now register as a sex offender.
“Mr. Williams’ criminal acts betrayed the trust of his victim and his community,” said Bruning. “This sentence fits the weight of those crimes.”
In July, Williams was found guilty by jury for the crimes that occurred while he was a Ravenna police officer.
Nebraska State Patrol and Attorney General’s Office investigations determined Williams was sexually involved with a teenage girl between 2001 and 2003, starting when the girl was 14-years-old. Williams resigned from the Ravenna Police Department in January 2005.
Williams had previously been tried in 2007 and 2010, each trial ending in a hung jury. Charges against Williams were never dropped.
Assistant Attorneys General Kim Taylor-Riley and Doug Warner handled this case with significant assistance from Investigator Kerry Crosby.
