Broken Bow Bar on Probation

Posted by Johnnie James On June - 9 - 2010

A Broken Bow bar owner who repeatedly
violated the state’s year-old smoking ban inside businesses has been allowed to keep selling alcohol.

The Nebraska Liquor Control Commission voted Wednesday to put Henry Schumacher on probation for a year instead of yanking his
liquor license.

Schumacher owns Sylvester’s Bar & Lounge. He allowed smoking inside the bar for several months after the law went into effect a year ago because he opposes the ban. He was ticketed three times, paying a total of about $500 in fines.

Under terms of the probation, he will immediately lose his liquor license if he violates the law again.

Schumacher said after the vote Wednesday that he learned his lesson and nothing gives him the right to break the law.
