LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) – Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman wants federal officials to declare agricultural disasters in nine counties.
Heineman sent a request for the declarations into the U.S. Agriculture Secretary on Wednesday.
Heineman says extensive crop damage was found in the nine counties because of heavy rains, hail, high winds and flooding.
Once disaster declarations are issued, farmers in the covered counties will be eligible for USDA disaster assistance programs, including low-interest loans.
Heineman’s request includes Boone, Box Butte, Boyd, Cheyenne, Dawson, Garfield, Holt, Johnson and Kimball counties.
