Private Dana College closing after 126 years
BLAIR, Neb. (AP) – Private Dana College is closing after 126 years because the school’s accrediting body refused to back its sale to a group of investors.
College officials announced the closing Wednesday after the Higher Learning Commission refused to transfer accreditation to the group of investors that announced plans to buy the school in Blair in March.
Dana had experienced financial problems and ran significant deficits for several years before the sale was announced.
The school had about 500 students. It was founded by Danes and has ties to the Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Dana says it has agreements with the University of Nebraska at Omaha and Grandview University in Des Moines, Iowa, that will allow students to continue their studies.
