Loretta Jean Long, 60

Loretta Jean Long, 60, of Ft. Worth, Texas died June 28, 2015 at her home.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 3, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Burwell. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell. Fr. Josh Brown will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 – 7p.m. with a 6:00 p.m. rosary at church. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society. Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell is in charge of arrangements.
Jean was born February 13, 1955 in Burwell, Nebraska to Eldon and Margaret Melrae (Brewer) Kovarik. Jean grew up in Taylor, Nebraska. She graduated from North Platte High School. In 1972 she married Fred Long and they were later divorced. Jean attended Kearney State College and later in life received her Masters Degree.
Jean was an accountant in North Platte. She moved to Grand Island where she was a bank auditor. Jean later moved to Topeka, Kansas and worked as the director of revenue for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad. In 2002 she transferred to Ft. Worth, Texas. In 2006 she went to work for DynCorp.
Due to failing health she was forced to quit working. She enjoyed the outside, landscaping and gardening. Jean liked to read and was very involved in anything her grandkids were doing. She was also an avid Huskers fan.
Jean is survived by a daughter, Teresa and Mike Rose of Wichita Falls, Texas. A daughter-in-law, Deb Long of Valentine, Nebraska. Four grandchildren, Sheyanne Long, Garrett Long, Melanie Rose and Isabella Rose. Nine brothers and sisters, Linda Kovarik of North Loup, Nebraska, Ray and Darcia Kovarik of Taylor, Nebraska, Mike Kovarik of Lexington, Nebraska, Chris and Tom Sherman of Genoa, Nebraska, Brad and Gayla Kovarik of Seneca, Nebraska, Brian and Pam Kovarik of Denver, Colorado, Bill and Donna Kovarik of Lincoln, Nebraska, Steve and Debie Kovarik of Woodward, Oklahoma and Martin and Shelly Kovarik of Kearney, Nebraska.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, a son Zane Long, two brothers, Tim and Richard as an infant.

Melvin Adren "Cash" Gideon, 93

Melvin Adren "Cash" Gideon, Sr., 93, of Burwell, Nebraska died June 26, 2015 at his home near Burwell, Nebraska.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 2, 2015 at the United Methodist Church in Burwell, Nebraska.  Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell.  Pastor Dennis Davenport will officiate.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 - 7 p.m. at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell, Nebraska.  Memorials are suggested to the Burwell American Legion or 4 The Cure.

Cash was born April 24, 1922 in Garfield County, Nebraska to Melvin O. and Edna B. (Jensen) Gideon.  Cash graduated from Burwell High School in 1939.  Cash enlisted in the United States Marines on July 8, 1942 and served his country during WWII with active duty in the Pacific Islands.  Cash was honorably discharged on July 10, 1946 serving his country for 4yrs and 2 days.  Cash married Evelyn Wells of Sargent  in Seattle Washington on April 28, 1945.  They recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.  

Cash and Evelyn returned to Burwell where Cash worked on various ranches and did custom haying.  They then moved to town and started working for Fairbanks Morse where he did demolition with dynamite and installed diesel engines.  Cash would also blow up beaver dams for ranchers to drain their land.  Cash was offered a position with Nebraska Power Services and continued with demolition and generator installation.  He and Zane later formed their own company called Diesel Erectors,

Cash played about as hard as he worked.  He enjoyed being a pilot, playing fast pitch softball, shooting pool, playing cards, Canadian fishing trips for over 40yrs, and hunting and fishing with family.

Cash is survived by his wife Evelyn Gideon.  Five sons, Zane and Pat Gideon, Dave and Sandy Gideon, Mel and Jan Gideon, Yohn Gideon, and Matt and Sara Gideon all of Burwell, Nebraska.   Fourteen grandchildren, twenty three great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren.

Cash was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Mildred Johnson, Erma Hoover and Melva Fernau and a brother Jack Gideon.  A grandson, Wes Gideon,  a great-grandson, Peyton Gideon, and daughter in-law Melanie Gideon.

Karen Sanders, 74

Funeral Services for Karen Sanders, age 74, of Ord, formerly of O’Neill, will be at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, June 27, 2015, at Biglin’s Mortuary in O’Neill.  Visitation will be 1 hour before the service at Biglin’s Mortuary.  Rev. Ralph Metschke will officiate. Karen passed away Sunday morning, June 21, 2015, at The Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell, NE.

She is survived by 2 brothers; Ronal Brooks and wife Linda and Lloyd Brooks and wife Betty, all of Fremont, NE, 2 sisters; Lynda Volman and husband Ron of Santa Ana, CA, Loreen Sevenker and husband Lyle of Ord, NE, and several nieces, nephews, and friends.

Karen was born on February 8, 1941, in Sioux Falls, SD, to Lloyd and Zetta (Zachariasen) Brooks.  She graduated from O’Neill Public High School.  On October 7, 1960, she married Willis Dean Sanders in O’Neill, NE; he passed away on May 10, 2007. They were married 47 years.

Karen was a ranch wife, and she helped ranch and raise livestock in rural Holt County from 1956 until 2011, before moving to Ord, NE.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Evelyn Janulewicz, 98

Evelyn Janulewicz 98, of Loup City, NE died Thursday, June 18, 2015 at Rose Lane Home in Loup City.  Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 22, 2015 at St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church in Loup City with Father Martin Egging officiating.  Burial will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City.  Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, June 21 at the church with a 6:00 p.m. Vigil Service/Sodality Rosary to be held at the church.  Memorials are suggested to the Janulewicz family or donor’s choice.  Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City is in charge of arrangements.

Evelyn C. (Kauffman) Janulewicz was born November 14, 1916 at Climax, Montana to Emil and Catherine (Reiter) Kauffman.  She grew up in Nebraska and graduated  from Spalding Academy High School in Spalding, NE in 1934.  After she and Harold B. Janulewicz were married in Valentine, NE on Feb. 1, 1942, they made their home in Loup City.  She and Harold owned and operated the Golden Rule Dairy.  Evelyn delivered milk throughout Loup City and was known as the “milk lady”.  They retired from the business in 1978.  Harold died November 28, 2002.  Evelyn entered Rose Lane Home in 2009.  She was a member of St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church, Sodality Rosary, St. Anne’s Quilting Club, Hospital Auxiliary, bridge club and was a faithful blood donor.  She enjoyed quilting, knitting, baking and was an avid Husker fan.  She is survived by her sons, Mark and wife, Elaine of Grand Island, NE; John and wife, Kay of St. Paul, NE; Paul and wife, Norma of Boelus, NE; David and wife, Paulette Janulewicz of Grand Island, NE; Karl and wife, Melissa of Redding, CA; daughters, Mary Jo and husband, Dick Heishman of Hastings, NE; Cook (Kathy) and husband, Kevin Vogt of Boelus, NE; Vicki and husband, Dave Moraczewski of Ashton, NE; 21 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren; 1 great, great grandchild and 2 step-great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; brother, Leo and sister, Madelaine.
