Dollar General Literacy Foundation Youth Literacy Grants provide funding to schools, public libraries, and nonprofit organizations to help students who are below grade level or experiencing difficulty reading. Grant funding is provided to assist in the following areas:
  • Implementing new or expanding existing literacy programs
  • Purchasing new technology or equipment to support literacy initiatives
  • Purchasing books, materials or software for literacy programs

Ord Elementary is expanding a program to improve reading skills in the areas of fluency, comprehension, and decoding. The goal will be to improve reading comprehension of scores through identifying specific reading deficiencies and strategically provide comprehensive services/instruction to struggling readers.

Funds from the Grant will be used to purchase 25 Google Chromebooks that will allow our teachers and students instant access to the AIMSWEB Universal Screener. The AIMSWeb progress monitoring probes are used to benchmark students and provide a comprehensive system for screening, progress monitoring and managing student data. This tool allows our RtI team of educators to utilize data in identifying struggling readers and making clear, concise decisions on interventions that will be successful for these students.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -Comcast Corp. will invest hundreds of millions of dollars in California and Florida theme parks, stepping outside its core business of telecommunications in an effort to boost revenue and profits.
