Karen K. Wilson 73 of Ord died Friday, December 19, 2014 at the CHI Good Samaritan Hospital at Kearney.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday December 23, 2014, at the Ord First United Methodist Church with Rev. Trever Rook officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Evergreen Cemetery at Loup City. Visitation will be held Monday at the Ord First United Methodist Church from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Memorials may be given to the Ord United Methodist Women or the Valley County Health Systems Hospice. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Karen was born November 28, 1941 at Rockville, Nebraska to Edwin and Mae (Krakowski) Dethlefs. She was raised on a farm seven miles west of Rockville, NE. She attended Rural School District #53 and graduated from Rockville High School in 1959. She then attended Business College in Omaha.
On September 30, 1961, Karen was married to Gary Wilson at Rockville, NE. She then worked in Loup City for the Extension Agency. They moved to Fresno, CA in 1965, where she worked for the United States Post Office and the IRS. In 1977, the couple moved to Phoenix, AZ and she continued working for the IRS. In 1981, they moved to Ord and Karen worked for the Bureau of Reclamation and Loup Basin RC&D. Karen retired 10 years ago.
Karen was active in Ord First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women the Valley County Health System Hospice and worked at the Ord Food Pantry.
Survivors include her husband Gary of Ord; two daughters and sons- in- law, Shelly and Alan Wilson Monson and Kimberly and Kenneth Wilson Howell all of Boulder City, NV; 4 grandchildren, Ashley and Kylen Smith and Stewart and Tanner Howell; a great grandson, Colton Smith; a brother, Gerald “Buzz” Dethlefs and his special friend, Marie Mayberry of Cape Coral, FL; three sisters and brothers- in law, Patty and Jerome Moritz of Grand Island, Denise and John Wardyn of Wichita, KS., and Cindy and Bruce Ash of Arcadia, NE.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Georgene Steele.

Gerald E. Pierson, 86

Gerald E. Pierson, 86, of Arcadia passed away on Friday, December 19, 2014, at the Rose Lane Home in Loup City.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 22, 2014, at the Arcadia United Methodist Church. The Reverend Dr. Jeff D. Hale will officiate. Burial will be in the Arcadia Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday at the church from 12:00 p.m. until service time. Memorials are suggested to the Arcadia Rescue Unit or the Gathering Place. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Gerald Eugene was born July 27, 1928, to Albin and Rosie (Toops) Pierson at home in Sherman County, Nebraska. He was raised in Arcadia where he received his education and graduated from Arcadia High School in 1947. While in high school Gerald was active in sports and played on the Arcadia Husky Championship Football team in 1944. The team was recognized and inducted into the Arcadia High School Wall of Fame.
On October 12, 1950, Gerald was united in marriage to Joann Masters at the Congregational Church in Arcadia. The couple lived their entire married life in the Arcadia area where they farmed.

For the past four years, Gerald has resided at the Rose Lane Home at Loup City.
Gerald attended the Balsora and Congregational Church. He enjoyed fishing, horses, horseshows, and rodeos. He was very proud to ride his horse in the annual Arcadia Fall Festival Parade. He was an avid sports fan and followed his grandchildren’s sports and activities.

Survivors include his wife, Joann of Arcadia; two daughters, Terri Pierson and Lori Pierson both of Arcadia; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Conn and Donna Pierson of Arcadia and Robert and Jean Pierson of La Vista, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Andrew (Johnna) Pierson, Cami (Matt) Skaggs and Zachary and Nikki Pierson; three great-grandchildren, Jettlyn and Maxton Pierson and Kyler Skaggs.

He was preceded in death by his parents.


Dorothy C. Butts, 91

Dorothy C. Butts, 91, of Minden, formerly of Ord and Burwell passed away on Thursday, December 18, 2014, at the Bethany Home in Minden.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 20, 2014, at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. Father Mark Maresh will officiate. Burial will be in the Cottonwood Cemetery at Burwell. A Rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m. at the church on Saturday. Memorials are suggested to the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church Altar Society. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy Cecilia was born April 14, 1923, at Ord, Nebraska the second of ten children, to Frank and Gertrude (Bialy) Piskorski. She was raised in Ord and graduated from Ord High School in 1941.

Following high school she worked for her dad at Ord Cold Storage. On June 1, 1943, Dorothy was united in marriage to James “Leo” Butts at Ord. The couple lived in Wichita, Kansas for a short time while Leo served in the United State Army. They returned to Leo’s family farm southeast of Burwell where they farmed and raised potatoes. Dorothy also volunteered at St. Mary’s School in Ord for many years.

Leo passed on July 26, 1988. Dorothy remained on the farm until 1998, when she moved to Ord. Dorothy had made her home at Grandview Assisted Living Center at Ord and recently Bethany Home at Minden.

She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Burwell and Our Lady of Perpetual Help at Ord and belonged to both of the church altar societies. Her hobbies were sewing, gardening, flowers, and canning. She was a wonderful cook and will be remembered by her gingerbread houses and divinity.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, James and Henrietta Boots of North Platte and Martin Butts of Burwell; two grandsons, Cortney Boots of South Korea and Kevin Boots of North Platte; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Martin and Joyce Piskorski of North Platte, Edward and Marianne Piskorski of New London, Wisconsin; and Tom and Renee Piskorski of Hugo, Colorado; and a sister and brother-in-law, Kathryn and Milt Turek of Ord.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and five brothers, Richard, Ernest, John, Frank and George.


Cynthia S. Kroeger, 61

Cynthia S. “Cindy” Kroeger, 61, of Burwell passed away on Monday, November 24, 2014, at CHI St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

Miss Kroeger was cremated. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 22, 2014, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ord. Pastor Mark Middendorf will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Ellis, Kansas.  Memorials may be given to the Community Memorial Health Center of Burwell. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
