Marion L. Fowler, 92


Marion L. Fowler, 92, of Ord passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2014, at the Valley View Living Center in Ord.

Visitation will be held Friday, November 21, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 am at the Ord Memorial Chapel with a graveside service to follow at 11:30 a.m. the Ord City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Valley County Health System Hospice. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Marion Lee Fowler was born November 24, 1921, at Mondamin, Iowa to Charles Raymond and Gladys Rachel (Sublet) Fowler. He was raised in Mondamin, Iowa where he received his education.

Marion Joined the United State Air Force in 1942, where he served on a B-24 Bomber Group for the duration.

On May 8, 1944, Marion was united in marriage to Kathryn E. Clement at Santa Monica, California.

Marion relocated to Denver, Colorado where he worked as a Lab Technician at Gates Rubber Company; he retired in 1984, and in 2001, relocated to Ord, Katheryn’s home town.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Kathryn of Ord; two sons and daughters-in-law, Terry L. and Dee Fowler of Loveland, Colorado and Michael E. and Lucy Fowler of Palm City, Florida; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister.

Mary E. "Mary Beth" Parker, 72



Mary E. “Mary Beth” Parker, 72, of Ord passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 11, 2014, at her home outside of Ord, Nebraska.
Mrs. Parker’s wishes were to be cremated. Her life will be honored on Wednesday, November 19, 2014, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. with a dinner reception at the Country Neighbor. Private Inurnment will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Mary Elizabeth was born March 27, 1942, at Ord, Nebraska to Dillo and Alyce (Novotny) Troyer. She was raised in Ord where she received her education and graduated from Ord High School in 1960.
Mary Beth continued her education at Creighton University in Omaha where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. While at Creighton she met Gordon Parker. The couple was united in marriage in 1964, at St. John’s Church on the Campus of Creighton University. They continued to live in Omaha until moving to Gordon’s hometown of Kalamazoo, Michigan.
While in Kalamazoo, their son, Scott was born. Mary Beth worked as a Registered Nurse at Borgess Hospital; then as an Obstetrics Nurse for the Chief of Staff at Bronson Hospital; and as an Industrial Nurse at Eckrich Meats. Gordon and Mary Beth also owned and operated Fin ‘n Feather Marine, a marina and sporting complex in Kalamazoo for over twenty years.
In 1997, the couple moved to Ord to be near Mary Beth’s family. They settled in their country home outside of Ord. Mary Beth worked as a RN for the Valley County Health System. She made many friends and cared for many people as a Home Health and Hospice Nurse until her recent retirement in January of 2014.
Mary Beth enjoyed auctions, gardening, animals and the wildlife at her country home. She had a very giving soul and enjoyed caring for people.
She is survived by her son, Scott Parker of Baltimore, Maryland; a brother and sister-in-law, Alan and Virginia Troyer of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and a niece, Dr. Julie Troyer of Lake Park, Georgia.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Gordon who passed away on February 18, 2012. 

Clarence Davenport, 90



Clarence Davenport, 90, of Ord, formerly of Burwell, passed away on Thursday, Nov 13, 2014, at Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Saturday November 15, 2014 at the Ord Christian Church in Ord. Pastor Dennis Davenport and Pastor Doug Durre will officiate. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm Friday at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell. Memorials may be made to Valley County Health System.
Clarence Davenport, the son of Charles and Florence (Tetschner) Davenport, was born in rural Garfield County on August 26, 1924 and passed away in Ord on November 13, 2014, at age of 90. Clarence lived his entire life in Garfield and Valley Counties, graduating from Burwell High School in 1942.
On May 25, 1947 he was united in marriage to Vernell Donner. Shortly after Clarence and Vernell were married they were baptized into Christ at the Burwell Christian Church. Clarence and Vernell had three children.
Clarence spent his entire life farming and raising livestock. He was a member of District 56 School Board in Valley County and a Deacon at Community Christian Church in Burwell. Clarence enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 great grandsons, Dusty Helgoth and Tyler Davenport, and two sisters in laws, Edith Donner and Dorothy Arnold.
Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Vernell of Ord, three children, Dan (Pat) Davenport of Burwell, Peggy (Rich) Huhman of Broken Bow, and Dorothy (Jeff) Boilesen of Ord, 8 grandchildren, Angie (John) Urbanovsky, Danny (Leann) Davenport, Jess (Pam) Helgoth, Steve (Melinda) Rowse, Denise (Mark) Wray, Ronda Hunt, Jerry (Shannon) Helgoth, Cindy (Mike) Beach, 18 great grandchildren and two brother in laws, Marvin Donner and Jim Arnold.  

Norris John Carstens, 83



Norris John Carstens, 83, of Burwell, Nebraska died Sunday November 9th, 2014 at CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island, Nebraska.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 13, 2014 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Burwell, Nebraska. Burial will in Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell. Pastor Matt Berndt will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 – 7 p.m. at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell. Memorials are suggested to St. John’s Lutheran Church or the Burwell Veteran’s Park.
Norris was born July 17th, 1931 in Battle Creek, Nebraska to August and Nelda (Hofmann) Carstens. Brother of David, Pearl Drahota and Carol Stalker. August and Nelda moved their family early on from Battle Creek to a ranch near Chambers. When Norris was fourteen they moved to the present family ranch in Ericson, Nebraska. Norris drove the hay sweep from Ericson to Bassett to complete his confirmation classes, which; were stared before they moved to Ericson.
Norris joined the United States Army in 1952 where he honorable served in Korea. In May of 1952 he married Mary Anne Canfield and five children were born: Dan, Timothy, Bob, Ruth, and James Carstens.
In 1974 Norris married Ina Paul and had six step children: Bob, Susan, Stan, Kevin, Ron, and Randy.
He was half owner of the Ericson Sale Barn for many years, as well as co-owner with his wife Ina of the bar in Wolbach for a number of years before moving back to the ranch following the death of his father. In 2003 Norris and Ina moved to Burwell to live in town, and he went to work driving the van for Community Memorial Health Center until his death.
Norris was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, which; was a big part of his life. He enjoyed playing cards and games and driving people around.
Norris was a rock to his family and had the biggest heart for his community. He was loved by all who knew him, and if anyone ever needed anything Norris was the first to be there.
He was preceded in death by his son Timothy, his mother and father, his brother Dave, his wife Mary Anne, and two brother-in-laws, Melvin Drahota and Paul Stalker.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Ina Carstens, children, Dan and Sabrina Carstens, Bob and Tammy Carstens, Ruth and Walter Frerichs, James Carstens, and step-children Bob and Jane Paul, Susan Oppegard, Stan Paul, Kevin and Dwana Paul, Ron Paul, Randy and Brenda Paul, numerous grand children and great grandchildren, two sisters, Pearl Drahota and Carol Stalker and many extended family members.
