Lora Koker, 101

Lora Koker, 101 of Loup City, NE died Friday, May 15, 2015 at Rose Lane Home in Loup City.  Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 22, 2015 at the Loup City Community Building with Speaker DeWayne Hanes.  Burial will be at the Arcadia City Cemetery in Arcadia, NE.  Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Friday at the Community Building.  Memorials are suggested to Jehovah’s Witnesses.  Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City is in charge of arrangements.

Lora B. (Clingman) Koker was born December 27, 1913 at Ash Canyon near Ansley, NE to Wells Boyer and Elizabeth Bell (Houts) Clingman.  She grew up and attended school in the Ansley/Arcadia area.  On March 25, 1934 she married Harry C. Koker at Arcadia, NE.  They farmed south of Arcadia in Sherman County.  She moved to Loup City in 1979.  She was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
She is survived by her daughter, Viola F. Spaulding of Omaha, NE; Shirley Jean Salmons of Auburn, WA; Harriett (Maynard) Franzen of Arcadia, NE; Lora L. (Jerry) Karre of Aurora, CO; son, Gerald H. (Leona) Koker of Arcadia, NE; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren and sister, Nona Wallin of Omaha, NE.  She was preceded in death by her husband, one brother, four sisters and one grandchild.

Marilyn Lucille Clabaugh, 78

Marilyn Lucille Clabaugh, 78, of Burwell, Nebraska died May 17, 2015 at the Valley County Health Systems Hospital in Ord, Nebraska.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at the United Methodist Church in Burwell. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell. Pastor Dennis Davenport will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 – 8 p.m. Monday at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Methodist Church or the American Diabetes Association.
Marilyn was born December 28, 1936 in Sargent, Nebraska to Bert and Helen (Sweet) Helmkamp. She grew up in the Taylor area. As a child she became friends with Wanda Minor, and they remained lifelong friends. Marilyn married Ken Robbins in Burnet, Texas. To this union four children were born.
Marilyn married Jim Clabaugh on April 24, 1973 in Burwell. They farmed near Burwell until 1992 when they retired and moved to Burwell
Being a livelong learner, Marilyn worked for and achieved her GED after raising her children. Marilyn was a 50-year member of the United Methodist Church where she was very active in all aspects, especially choir and children’s ministries. Making everyone welcome was her mission on Sunday mornings. She enjoyed making afghans for her grandchildren, puttering in her yard, volunteering with Meals on Wheels and participating in Christian Women’s Club. Time was spent traveling to see her grandchildren and their activities. Her passion for walking helped to control her diabetes.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, Jim Clabaugh of Burwell, Nebraska. Three children, Sue and Rick Petersen of Downers Grove, Illinois, Vern and Kay Robbins of Grand Island, Nebraska and Warren and Sue Robbins of Minden, Nebraska. Ten grandchildren, Brittony Robbins, Kyle Robbins, Krista Robbins, Nathan Petersen, Elizabeth Petersen Banaszak, Gabriel Robbins, Abigail Stahmer, Benjamin Robbins, Sara Robbins and Derrick Walker; also, two great-grandchildren, Eleanor and Everett Banaszak.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Bernard Robbins.

Virginia D. Hansen, 88

Virginia D. Hansen, 88, of Ord passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2015, at the Golden Living Center in Hartington, Nebraska.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. Father Josh Brown will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. at the Ord Memorial Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Family’s Choice. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Virginia Dorothy was born June 22, 1926, to Anton and Josephine (Pawloski) Jerabek on the family farm west of Farwell, Nebraska. She attended rural schools, St. Anthony Catholic School in Farwell and graduated from Farwell High School in 1944.
Following graduation Virginia attended Kearney State College and earned her teaching degree. During the summers she helped on the family farm and during the winters she worked at the Ordinance Plant in Grand Island making bombs for use during the war.
In 1950, Virginia was united in marriage to Junior Hansen of Scotia, Nebraska on Virginia’s family farm west of Farwell. They made their home on a farm southwest of Ord.
After their three children were of school age, Virginia began working in Ord. She worked at the Florette, Ord Quiz and Ord Locker. Virginia was most proud of her 24 years as the secretary at the Ord Elementary School. Following her retirement from the school, she worked at Daylight Donuts.
Virginia was very active at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. She taught CCD classes for 15 years and served as the President and Chairperson of the Altar Society. She was instrumental in putting together two cookbooks for the altar society.
Virginia will be remembered for her homemade breads, kolaches, cakes, pies and fried chicken.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Randy and Kim Hansen and Bruce Hansen all of Omaha; a daughter and son-in-law, Deb and Dennis Sturek of Hartington; 8 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Marge Jerabek of Farwell; a sister, Odelia Rogers of Davenport, Iowa; a sister-in-law, JoAnn Jerabek of Farwell; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Junior; an infant daughter, Sandy and a brother, Aaron Jerabek.

Roma H. Hoppes, 94

Roma H. Hoppes, 94, of Burwell passed away on Friday, May 08, 2015, at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 11, 2015, at the United Methodist Church in Burwell. Pastor Dennis Davenport will officiate. Graveside Services will be at 1:30 p.m. in the Ord City Cemetery. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. until service time on Monday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Burwell Methodist Church. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Roma Henrietta was born January 15, 1921, in Valley County, Nebraska to Henry and Dora (Christensen) Jorgensen. She was raised on the family farm in Valley County and received her education at Haskell Creek Country School and graduated from Ord High School in 1938.
Following graduation, Roma taught rural school for four years. On April 10, 1942, Roma was united in marriage to R. Willard Hoppes at Bartlett, Nebraska. The couple made their home on a farm north of Ord for four years. In 1946, they settled in Burwell where Roma worked at Ruthie’s Variety Store for a number of years. Willard passed away on December 29, 2005. Roma continued to make her home in Burwell until 2008, when she moved to Grandview at Ord. She has been a resident at the Community Memorial Health Center at Burwell since 2010.

Roma was a member of the United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was a Sunday School teacher and belonged to the Rollin Pins Club. Roma enjoyed baking for her family. She will be remembered for her breads, rolls and lemon pies.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law Brian and Nancy of Fremont, Bradley and Kathy of Fremont Hills, Missouri and Brett and Lori of Scottsbluff; 8 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and one sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Dale Hoppes of Ord.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willard; a son, Dalee; one sister, Alma Jorgensen; and a brother, Everett Jorgensen.
