LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Tennessee volleyball player Mary Pollmiller is transferring to Nebraska, alleviating the Cornhuskers' need for an experienced setter.
Pollmiller is a native of Littleton, Colo., who comes to Nebraska as a junior in eligibility. She was the 2011 Southeastern Conference freshman of the year after setting school records for assists. Her 11.9 assists per set two years ago was best in the nation among freshmen.
Last year she averaged 10.6 assists per set and led the Lady Vols to the NCAA tournament, where they lost in five sets to Final Four qualifier Michigan.
Nebraska has been in need of a setter. Three-year starter Lauren Cook graduated, and Alexa Strange announced last week that she is transferring. The Huskers have an incoming freshman setter in Kelly Hunter of Papillion-La Vista South.
With sole possession of second place in the Big Ten Conference up for grabs, the Nebraska baseball team (21-25, 12-6 Big Ten) was unable to deliver a win on Monday afternoon at Hawks Field, as the No. 14 Indiana Hoosiers (36-9, 13-5 Big Ten) took the three-game series with a 10-2 victory. After the teams split the first two games of the series, Indiana got a strong outing from starter Aaron Slegers and four RBIs from Dustin DeMuth in the win.
The Huskers now sit third in the Big Ten standing, behind Minnesota and Indiana, and could fall to fourth pending the outcome of this afternoon's game between Ohio State and Northwestern.
Nebraska starter Aaron Bummer was never able to find a groove on the mound, as the lefty lasted just 4.0 innings, giving up three runs on just three hits, but was his own worst enemy with five walks. Slegers went 8.1 innings for the Hoosiers, allowing a pair of runs on five hits and no walks, while striking out three.
Junior right-hander Tatum Edwards fired a one-hit shutout to lead the 14th-ranked Nebraska softball team past Penn State, 2-0, on Monday afternoon in the regular-season finale at Nittany Lion Softball Park.
Edwards allowed only a two-out sixth-inning single to Cassidy Bell, while tossing her ninth shutout of the year and improving to 25-8 on the season. Edwards faced the minimum over the first 5.0 innings, allowing only three total base runners on the single and a pair of walks, while striking out six.
With the win, Nebraska clinched the No. 2 seed for this week's Big Ten Tournament at Bowlin Stadium. The Huskers finished the regular season with a 39-12 record, including a 16-6 mark in Big Ten Conference play. The win was also Nebraska's 15th road victory of the season, the most in school history.
Two Nebraska home games in 2013 will be played in primetime and televised nationally on BTN, the network announced on Monday.
The Huskers' season opener against Wyoming on Aug. 31 will kick off at 7 p.m. CT, and NU's home game against Southern Miss on Sept. 7 is set for a 5 p.m. CT start.
BTN will televise a total of 12 primetime Big Ten games during the 2013 season.

Ord Boxing Club Receives Check
The Ord Boxing Club received a donation from Cargill Inc through their employee Jo Moraczewski. Cargill gives each employee an amount of money to be used for the charity of their choice, and they can be doubled through the corporate office if they meet certain criteria, through not all donations can be matched.
Jo presented the check for $500 to Coach Dan Klimek, Coach Dustin Claypool, and Assistant Coach Jacob Sautter, on Monday April 15, 2012, to be used for improvements to the equipment and additional needs. All the coaches are volunteers and we don’t charge for the lessons like some other clubs do.
Our Club’s purpose is to sharpen everyone up mentally and physically and give them another sport to compete in. The other towns besides Ord that the kids are coming from this year are Elba, Greeley, Spalding and Burwell. This year we have 35 kids signed up, ages 8 thru 34 years to compete in matches, but we let younger and older individuals train too. We train 3 times a week and then attend matches on Saturdays when they have them.
The Ord Boxing Club is very appreciative of the donation. Dan Klimek stated “It is go to replacing some of the equipment that is old and supplies. Thank you! The last donation we received was a $20 memorial from someone, this really helps.”
