The jury trial in the case against John Oldson for the 1989 murder of Cathy Beard has been moved from Valley County to Howard County. That trial is set for January 28, 2013. In a pretrial motion held in Howard County court today, Wednesday, November 14, 2012, Judge Karen Noaks sustained the motion by Oldson’s defense attorney James Mowbray to have the trial moved. The defense had sent out approximately 136 questionnaire to possible Valley County jurists. 75% of the people who responded to the survey said they felt Oldson was guilty of the murder. Judge Noaks also agreed with the defense with their motion that the view of the bar where the crime is reported to have happened will hamper jurists and the court. The bar is clearly visible from the courtroom and the jury room. The State’s attorney Corey O’Brien and Valley County attorney Glen Clark will be sending out surveys to possible Howard County jurists. A pretrial hearing in regards to those surveys has been set for December 18, 2012 in Valley County court.
John Oldson was arrested back in January in Randolph MO charged with first degree murder in the 1989 death of Catherine Beard of Ord. Oldson is currently being held in Valley County without bond.
