Marcie Sikyta, a Psychotherapist in the Heritage Program at Valley County Health System, recently attended a seminar, Psychopharmacology in Plain English, in Omaha.
The seminar focused on practical decisions when confronted with psychopharmacological ethical dilemmas, and covered information about antidepressants, antipsychotics and medicines for insomnia. While Sikyta does not prescribe medication, she gained knowledge of how the most prescribed antidepressants, anti-anxiety medications and sleep medications on the market today work, as well as the benefits and side effects associated with each of them.
The VCHS Heritage Program for seniors is a behavioral health program that provides individualized treatment for older adults who suffer from psychiatric, emotional or behavioral disorders. For more information, call 308.728.4340.
