The 14th annual Cattlemen’s Ball kicked off on Friday, June 1, 2012 in McCool Junction with nearly 4,500 people in attendance during the 2 day event. Lynn Daily of KNLV radio in Ord represented MWB Broadcasting on Saturday. This year the ball was at Stone Creek Event Center with the Allen and Shelly Clark family hosting. Last year the Cattlemen’s Ball raised a record $1.5 million with 90% of that money going to the UNMC Eppley Cancer Center and the remaining 10% going to the community that hosts the event. Since its inception in 1998, the Cattlemen’s Ball has raised more than $6.29 million.
Talley’s from this year are not available yet, however the auctioneer/manager of Norm Green Realty and Auction stated that live auctions alone raised more than $562,000.00. The whole reason for weekend Cattlemen’s Ball is to raise funds for the UNMC Eppley Cancer Center. Lynn Timmerman, Founding Board Member of the Cattlemen’s Advisory Board states, “When you attend the ball the bottom line is that we are helping cancer research and to help find a cure for cancer.”
Friday night, Mark Jensen, owner of MWB Broadcasting (KAWL-KTMX and KNLV radio stations) hosted the Friday night Trail Boss Reception.
Through out the day on Saturday, Lynn walked the vast grounds of Stone Creek that was dotted with several circus sized tents with many varieties of events for all to attend at their own leisure including at different times throughout the day: General stores, art shows, trap shoot, The Blue River Czech polka band playing, wine tasting, Music Man (Paul Seibert) performing, a magic show and farm and ranch auction along with the silent auction which went on all day. Appearances by “Barney Fife” (Rik Roberts) could be spotted throughout the day as well.
A prime-rib, buffet dinner was catered by Chances R of York, NE on Saturday night with country music sensation Justin Moore performing that evening.
