Keep Loup Basin Beautiful To Educate on Cigarette Litter In Dannebrog

The National Keep America Beautiful (KAB) Cigarette Litter Prevention Program through a grant program sponsored by Keep Loup Basin Beautiful is focusing on the reduction of cigarette litter. This weekend during Dannebrog’s Grundlovefest Celebration, ash receptacles will be installed around the downtown area, and pocket/car cigarette butt receptacles will be handed out. The program will include education messaging that a cigarette butts not properly disposed is in fact litter.

Tobacco products, including cigarette butts, are the most-littered item in America, representing nearly 38 percent of all items, according to “Litter in America.” The research also showed that individuals who would never litter may not consider tossing cigarette butts on the ground as “littering”.

The Keep Loup Basin Beautiful organization is sponsored by the Loup Basin RC&D. For more information about other Keep Loup Basin Beautiful projects you can call 728-3393 or visit www.keeploupbasinbeautifulorg.

The Keep America Beautiful® Cigarette Litter Prevention Program addresses the issue by integrating four proven approaches:

encouraging enforcement of litter laws that include cigarette litter;

raising awareness about the issue using public service messages;

placing ash receptacles at transition points such as near entrances to public buildings; and

distributing pocket ashtrays to adult smokers.
