Claire D. Hansen, 77, of North Loup passed away Tuesday, October 09, 2012, at her home.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 12, 2012, at the North Loup United Methodist Church. Pastor Bruce Phillips will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Hillside Cemetery at North Loup. Memorials are suggested to the North Loup United Methodist Church, Valley County Health System Home Health or the Alzheimer’s Association. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Claire Del was born April 17, 1935, at Scotia, Nebraska, to Elmer and Francis (Stowell) Leth. She was raised north of Cotesfield in Howard County, attended grade school at Cotefield and graduated from Scotia High School in 1952. Claire continued her education at Grand Island School of Business.

After graduating from business school she moved to Billings, MT where she worked at an insurance agency. On September 4, 1955, Claire was united in marriage to Harold E. Hansen at Cotesfield, NE. The couple lived in El Paso, TX while Harold was in the service. Following Harold’s discharge in 1956, the couple returned to Nebraska. They lived in Grand Island until 1967, when they began their family and then moved to Cotesfield.

In 1974, they settled in North Loup. Claire began working at the Valley County Clerk’s Office in 1975. She was elected to her first term as County Clerk in 1982, a position she held until her retirement in 2001.

Claire was a member of the United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School, the American Legion Auxiliary and Beta Sigma Phi. Her hobbies included reading, sewing, crocheting, painting and drawing and playing the piano. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, Harold of North Loup; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dennis and Carrie Hansen of North Loup and Scott Hansen of Clinton, MO; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Debora Hansen of Grand Island, Sondra and Wayne Pohlmeier of Grand Island and Lori and Randy Merten of Albion; six grandchildren, Nichole Hansen of Scotia, Jenifer (Mrs. James) Vech of Lincoln, Whitney Hansen of Lincoln, Clark Pohlmeier and Heather Pohlmeier both of Grand Island and Jonathan Merten of Albion; and three step grandchildren, Kaylee Merten of Albion, Keri Merten and fiancée, Ryan Hageman both of Lincoln and Kelly Merten of Grand Island; one brother, Max Leth of North Loup; and one sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Wayne Boilesen of Albion.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Nicholas Hansen; two infant brothers, Jackie and Russell Leth; a sister-in-law, Sharon Leth; and her father and mother-in-law, Marten and Margaret Hansen.
