Elvera C. “El” Woodgate, 71, of Ord passed away, Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at the Valley County Health System in Ord after a six year battle with breast cancer.

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 1, 2012, at the Ord Christian Church with Pastor Greg Barnes officiating. Burial will be in the Ord City Cemetery. A visitation will not be held. Memorials are suggested to the Valley County Health System Home Health and Hospice. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Elvera C. “El” was born November 24, 1940, at Fremont, Nebraska to Gustav R. and Anna G. (Hipke) Wennstedt. She was raised in Fremont where she received her education and graduated from Fremont High School in 1958. El attended L.P.N. nurses training in Omaha and graduated from Creighton University Hospital in 1959.

On November 22, 1959, El was united in marriage to Gerald Woodgate at Fremont, Nebraska. The couple settled in Ord in 1964. El worked for Dr. Wayne Zlomke and the Ord Hospital for 14 years. From 1980 to 1998 she worked at the Valley County Sheriff’s Office. El volunteered as an aid at the Ord Elementary and Ord Head Start Schools. She also worked at Diana’s Day Care and The Kid’s Zone.

El was a member of the Eastern Star, Ord Jaycettes, Ever-busy Ladies Club and was involved in Relay for Life. She dedicated her life to helping others and enjoyed working with children. She especially enjoyed dancing and spending time with family and friends and was a dedicated Elvis Fan.

Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Gerald “Woody” of Ord; a daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Terry O’Neel of Ord; a son and daughter-in-law, Gerald “Jerry” and Michelle Woodgate of St. Paul; five grandchildren, Tyler and Travis O’Neel of Ord, Timbre Cassell and husband, Simon of St. Libory, and Kyle and Dylan Woodgate of St. Paul; three great-grandchildren, Treyton, Kaiya and Katrina Cassell of St. Libory; and one brother, Vic Wennstedt of Fremont.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Robert, Fred, Richard and Mike Wennstedt and two sisters, Geraldine and Carman.
