Luella Davidson, 89



Luella Davidson 89 of North Loup passed away Sunday, August 12, 2012 at the Valley County Health System Hospital in Ord.

Luella’s wishes were to be cremated and there will be no Memorial Services. Memorials may be given to the Valley County Health System Hospice or the Donor’s Choice. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Luella was born September 13, 1922 at Horace Nebraska to Beecher and Vera (Thorngate) Van Horn. Luella’s family lived in the North Loup area and at the age of 15 Luella moved with her family to San Bernadino, California. Luella received her BA Degree from California State at Long Beach and continued graduate studies in social science and psychology.

Luella was married to Earl (Dick) Davidson December 25, 1943 at Riverside, Calif.

Luella worked for San Bernardino County in California for nearly 24 years, She worked as a Social Worker in the Welfare Department for five years, she then began working in the Probation Department where she established a reputation as a dedicated and concerned County employee, as a result of the respect she earned through meeting the ever-increasing challenges of her position, she was promoted to Supervising Probation Officer in 1965. Luella made significant contributions as the Supervsor of the Department’s first Juvenile Informal and Preplacement Unit and was the Director of the Experimental program entitled “New Early Action Treatment” for which the Department was awarded a two year grant to provide immediate family oriented treatment for nearly 300 teenage boys and girls.

After Luella’s retirement she returned to her hometown of North Loup where she and her husband

Luella collected American Indian artifacts and traveled many states hunting for those artifacts. Luella loved reading all kinds of books, fiction, nonfiction and educational .

Survivors include a brother H. Lynn Van Horn of Redland, Cal.; a step daughter and her husband Ernest and Norma Saks of Sequim, WA.; a special niece Jerilyn (Davidson) Emori of San Mateo, Calif.

Luella was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a sister Lyda Smith.
