Billy D. Wetzel, 76, of Ord passed away suddenly and peacefully on Saturday, June 2, 2012, at the Valley County Health System Hospital in Ord surrounded by his family.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2012, at the Ord Christian Church with Pastor Greg Barnes officiating. Lunch will follow the services at the church. Private Inurnment will be in the Ord City Cemetery at a later date. Memorials are suggested to The Ord Christian Church Building Fund or The Diabetes Association. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Billy Dwain was born August 14, 1935, to A.J. and Dorothy (Rassette) Wetzel at Ord, Nebraska. He attended Ord Elementary School until he got a job to make a living on his own. As a young teenager Billy did farm work for Don Wagner, Barney Peterson and area farmers.
Billy was united in marriage to Alice Mae Severance on April 15, 1957, at Minden, Nebraska.
He was employed at the Alfalfa Mill and also did construction work for Mike Naeve. In the early 60’s he went to work for Al Kittle. Bill worked for Kittle Plumbing as the “Best Backhoe Operator” until his retirement in the early 90’s.
Billy was a member of the Ord Christian Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing pool in his younger years. He will be remembered as a “Great Gardener” who grew the biggest and best onions.
Survivors include his wife, Alice of Ord; a son Gregg Wetzel and his good friend, Jan Bloom both of Ord; three daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria and Kevin Golike of Apple Valley, CA, Glenda and Bill Tietjens, Jr. of Ord and Alicia and Scott Thomsen of Ord; 17 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack and Paula Wetzel of Boardman, OR and Ron and Patricia Hans of Las Vegas, NV; a sister, LaRue Swanson of Pahrump, NV and a brother-in-law, Arlis Drummond of Central City, NE.
He was preceded in death by his father and step-mother, A.J. and Donna Wetzel, mother, Dorothy Hans; two sisters and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Ron Rawson and Alice Drummond.
