Stephanie L. Hurlbert, 68, of Ord passed away Friday, June 8, 2012, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha after receiving a liver transplant.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2012 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. Fathers Tom Ryan and Mark Maresh will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at the church with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Nebraska Organ Recovery System or Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Stephanie Leona was born April 18, 1944, on the family farm near Elyria, Nebraska to Sylvester and Angela (Michalek) Bogus. She attended grade school at Elyria and graduated from Ord High School in 1962. Stephanie continued her education at St. Elizabeth’s School of Nursing in Lincoln where she graduated as a Registered Nurse.
On September 18, 1965, Stephanie was united in marriage to Ronald L. Hurlbert at Elyria, Nebraska. The couple spent a year in Orange, California where Stephanie worked at a children’s hospital. In 1966, they settled in Ord. For over thirty years she worked as a RN at Valley County Hospital and Nursing Home. She also spent time as the school nurse for Ord Public Schools.
Stephanie was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Altar Society and Ord Does. Her hobbies included scrapbooking, stamping, crocheting, sewing and shopping. She enjoyed working in her garden, canning and cooking. Steph loved spending time with and spoiling her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Ron of Ord; two daughters and a son-in-law, Jill and Tom Waddle of Westminster, CO, and Carrie Hurlbert of Delmar, NY; a son and daughter-in-law, Jesse and Kelsey Hurlbert of Holdrege; five grandchildren, Landon and Joseph Waddle and Zac, Kenzie and Avery Hurlbert; and three sisters and brothers-in-law, Rita and Joe Warne of Alpine, AZ, Bernice and Dave Desmul of Buckley, WA and Joyce and Roger Danielson of San Diego, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
