Alma D. Bredthauer, 79, of Ord passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at the Heritage Living Center in St. Paul.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 4, 2012, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ord with Pastor Russel J. Troester officiating. Burial will be in the Ord City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Ord Memorial Chapel. Memorials are suggested to St. John’s Lutheran Church or to the family. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Alma Dorcas was born October 14, 1932, on the family farm in Merrick County, Nebraska, the youngest of six children to Onen and Hedwig (Wagner) Simonson. She was baptized into the Lutheran Faith at Zion Lutheran Church in Worms, NE where she was also confirmed. Alma attended grade school at Zion Lutheran Parochial School was a graduate of Palmer High School.

On September 9, 1951, Alma was united in marriage to Eugene Bredthauer at Worms, NE. They were blessed with four children, Glen, Ricky, Vicky and Andy. The couple made their home south of Ord in the Mira Valley area where they farmed and raised cattle.

Alma was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, LWML, Writer’s Club, Korner Kutters Extension Club, Bridge Club and was a 4-H Leader. She enjoyed baking, puzzles, reading, writing, crocheting and sewing. When her children were young she sewed all of their clothing and many of her own clothes. Alma will be remember by her stories and poems that she wrote for family and friends. She also wrote a column for a magazine and the Mira Valley News for the Ord Quiz. She also enjoyed the many friends she made while selling Rubbermaid and Home Interiors. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her husband, family and friends. Eugene and Alma loved to go to school and community events. They enjoyed traveling together on sales trips in California, Texas, Hawaii and Florida. Family and friend’s weddings and anniversaries were also special occasions they enjoyed together.

A very special day was September 10, 2011, when Eugene and Alma celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary with many family and friends.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Eugene of Ord; three sons and three daughters-in-law, Glen and Ramona of Hastings, Rick and Roxann of Hampton and Andy and Stacey of Ord; one daughter and son-in-law, Vicky and Pat Hruby of Comstock; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, Amy and Eric VanderWoude, Eric Jr., Tyler, Kaitlyn, Cora and Noah; Chad and Megan Bredthauer, Corrine, Carley, Ashley and Avery; Nicholas and Irene Bredthauer; Heather and Josh Dick, Kailey and Emmett; Jared Bredthauer; Morgan Bredthauer; Tim and Stephanie Hruby, Sophia and Tyan; Daniel and Kimmy Hruby and Thomas; Alvin Bredthauer, Burgundy Bredthauer, Madison Bredthauer and Stetson Bredthauer; three sisters, Rose Thede of St. Paul, Alice Langrehr of St. Libory and May Mettenbrink of Grand Island; and two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Bredthauer of Arcadia and Norma Jean Simonson

Welcoming her into Heaven are her parents; a granddaughter, Brenda Hruby; and other family, Elmer and Wanda Bredthauer, Esther and Charlie Van Pelt, John Simonson, Harry Thede, Bob Mettenbrink, Fern and Bernard Bredthauer, Herbert Bredthauer, Ruth and Alva Pingel and Harvey Langrehr.
