Bryan W. “Barney” Peterson, 82, of rural Ord passed away Thursday, January 3, 2013, at the Rose Lane Home in Loup City.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 7, 2013, at the Mira Valley Evangelical United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Jeff D. Hale officiating. Burial will be in the Ord City Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Ord Memorial Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Mira Valley Evangelical United Methodist Church or to the ALS Association. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Bryan was born March 1, 1930, the only child to Forrest and Belle (Bryan) Peterson at Ord, Nebraska. Shortly after childbirth, his mother passed away due to a blood clot. Barney was raised by his grandmother, Fannie Peterson while living with his Aunt and Uncle, Helen and Albert Peterson and their four children. He attended Happy Hollow District #57 school and graduated from Ord High School in 1947.
On May 14, 1949, Barney was united in marriage to Carolyn Foth at the Mira Valley Church. The couple made their first home on a farm in the Springdale area of Valley County. They lived there for ten years then settled in Mira Valley. Barney farmed and was a cattle rancher his entire life.
Barney was a lifelong member of the Mira Valley Church; a 4-H Leader for the Mira Valley Livestock Club, served on the Valleyside District #10 School Board and was a member of the Elks. Barney was thrilled to watch his children and later his grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate with their livestock at the fair. He was a devoted husband and father who loved his entire family.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn of rural Ord; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dale and Jeanne Peterson; and Keith and Christy Peterson all of Ord; four daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Tom Gailey of Keller, TX, Dianne and Bruce Worm of Ord, Pat and Chuck Setlik of Loup City, and Nancy and Fred Wright of Kansas City, MO; 19 grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; 3 expectant great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Ellen Jeanne Weeks; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a great-grandchild, Trustin Setlik.
