LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - A Nebraska state senator has introduced legislation that would stiffen the fine truckers would face for dumping livestock manure on the streets of Omaha, where he's from. Sen. Health Mello's bill would fine truckers $250 for the infraction. The current state fine for dumping from a vehicle is $100.
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - A state senator has proposed a bill that would strip men of all parental rights in cases in which they impregnated the child's mother while sexually assaulting her. The legislation introduced today by Sen. Bill Avery, of Lincoln, might still require men to pay child support in such sexual assault cases.
PAPILLION, Neb. (AP) - A 37-year-old man has been sentenced to life in prison for fatally shooting his stepdaughter on the front porch of her mother's home in the Omaha suburb of Bellevue. KETV says Michael Williams was sentenced today in Sarpy County District Court in Papillion. He had pleaded guilty to first-degree murder after prosecutors dropped a weapons charge.
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - State Sen. Dave Bloomfield has introduced a bill that would require Nebraska to fast-track concealed carry gun permits for victims of domestic violence. Under the bill introduced today, the Nebraska State Patrol would have five days to approve a concealed-carry handgun permit for victims, if a local law enforcement agency recommends it.
